Considering that we are reading a decent chunk of the book each session we've kept the optional readings to lighter primary source material. But as always happy for anyone to share other related reading/viewing in the chat here from session to session. Looking forward to seeing you there!

Political Reading Group
📚 Partisan Reading Group – Literary Incels Session 📚
On 4th May at 3pm at Bridge 5 Mill, we will be detouring into fiction and examining the topic of incels with Tony Tulathimutte’s connected short story collection on this very theme, ‘Rejection’.
It’s literary marmite - very distinctive and not like anything else I’ve read. If you want to sample some of it before buying/borrowing the book to see if it’s for you, you could check out the first story from the collection, ‘The Feminist’, which was published on nplusone a few years before the collection came out.
I’d like to pair Rejection with Daniel Kolitz’s Harper essay from last year: ‘Welcome to the Goon Squad’, which I’ve uploaded a PDF of to the drive (as well as a PDF of the many criticisms about the essay). This pairs pretty well with the third story in Rejection specifically.
We want to examine: how is the internet shaping sex, masturbation, romance, self-image and how we relate to one another? Are we lonelier than before? Less lonely?
At the risk of being a character from his collection, it does feel important to include a bunch of trigger warnings, since a book about incels does not always make for pleasant reading. TW: misogyny, racism, eating disorders, threat of violence to women.
Reading list:

Fighting ICE Everywhere
Fighting ICE Everywhere
📆 Sat 2nd May 7pm (please arrive 6:45pm)
📍 Bridge 5 Mill, Manchester
Since the mass repression and resistance against ICE in the US, we have been opening discussions with friends and comrades from various cities in the US involved in resistance the Trump regime. From Los Angeles in California, to the Twin Cities in Minneapolis, Detroit, Michigan and New York, come and here direct from those involved in struggles to resist ICE.
Whether in US, Britain, Europe or Gaza - the same companies, the same policies, the same means of control and exclusion are being rolled out. Thats why we are saying that Fighting ICE Everywhere is becoming a call to unify the terrain and name the processes at work.
We must think both beyond the state, and towards the empowerment of our local communities. To build agency and take control of our lives, accountable only to ourselves and our futures. The trusted channels we create allow us to share a secret which is slowly becoming a living truth for everyone who fights back against oppression; there are effective ways for the fight to be a victory and the seed for bigger ones.

FIRES AND FASCISM is a new 57-min documentary that shows the wildfires in Europe are more than just climate change and mismanagement. It links the increasing wildfires of Europe with fascism, big business, organised crime, and the rise of the far right. It showcases how communities are engaging in direct action, protest, rewilding, and suppressing the rise of uncontrollable fires and the far right through direct actions.
Featured are the experiences and actions of 25 people from Greece, Italy, Spain, and Portugal, including scientists, teachers, artists, gardeners, engineers, winemakers, NGOs, and authors. The film is crowdfunded, independent, and non-profit.
The director of the film, Dr Pete Knapp will be joining us for a Q&A after the film! Dr Knapp has a background in air quality and shifted careers from academia to storytelling. The reason for making the film is to reduce modern day fascism and to help unify people in times of growing division. It aims to start the conversation on what we need to do about the rise of fascism today. The film is currently on a tour of the UK with 100 screenings.
Pete Knapp will be attending each screening to discuss the film and how it links to local community.
