On Monday 14th September, Partisan Political Reading Group will celebrate its 4th birthday!

After three different Partisan venues and hundreds of attendees, we're now looking to plan the next block of sessions. We are especially keen to open up this planning to anyone who has an interest in a certain topic, thinker or movement they would like to discuss.

Join us at Bridge 5 Mill Spinning Room from 6:30 with your ideas and we will start to plan for the autumn! In true birthday fashion pizza and cake will be provided 🥳

The mill is a meat-free venue and both vegetarian and vegan options will be available.

Partisan Folk Club is a place for sharing and learning folk songs.

Everyone is welcome to sing or bring an instrument, or just sit back and enjoy the music.

It’s free, and you can bring your own booze, soft drinks, snacks and food.

Almia - a queer-led arts and wellbeing organisation based in the North West - have funding available to deliver a number of free creative workshops for LGBTQ+ and queer-questioning adults from September onwards. Partisan and Almia have teamed up to bring Postcards to a Queerer Future!

Participants arrive to find a postcard waiting for them - made by a queer person before them, sent forward to a future they couldn't see. The workshop moves from that moment of receiving to one of making: participants create their own collaged postcard about what a queerer future looks like to them, contribute words to a collective found poem, and choose what happens to what they have made - whether it travels to a queer friend now, or forward into a community archive for queer people yet to come. 

It invites participants to imagine, celebrate, and contribute to a wider conversations about the futures we want to build together through collage, creative writing, and collective storytelling!

Our next Riso Club will be August Bank Holiday Monday (31st August) 11am-2pm and we're gonna make a zine!

Everyone will create A5 page(s), which we'll assemble into a 2 colour zine and print so that everyone gets their own copy.

We'll have the materials to create your pages on the day, or you can bring pre-existing artwork. To give us enough time, we'll limit the colours and we'll stick to analogue hard copies (so if you have digital versions, bring a hard copy of each layer).

If you can't make it and would like to submit to the zine, send your (1 or 2 layer) page via the WhatsApp Community chat, and we will add it to the zine and leave a copy for you in the Partisan office!

Bob down to Alex Park on Pride Saturday and we’ll make a cosy patchwork of picnic blankets to enjoy a potluck together.

The plan is to perch ourselves behind the Pavilion cafe.

Partisan Cinema Presents: Do Not Expect Too Much from the End of the World

Partisan Cinema are very proud to present our first collaboration with Cultplex (@cpxmcr) where we will be screening Radu Jude’s 2023 satirical absurdist black comedy Do Not Expect Too Much from the End of the World.

Do Not Expect Too Much from the End of the World follows Angela, a production coordinator in Bucharest who spends much of her day driving round the city interviewing injured employees of a multinational corporation for a ‘Safety at Work’ video. Intercut with the Andrew Tate-style TikToks Angela makes to blow off steam on her long days, as well as footage from a 1981 film about a female taxi driver in the Romanian capital, a complex interrogation of the interaction between labour, gender and bodily danger emerges.

Radu Jude’s darkly comic exploration of exploitation at work in the twenty-first century flits between Zoom screen, phone camera and archival footage providing an at times uncomfortable but always compelling perspective on the absurdity and obscenity of being alive in the current moment. Radu Jude’s filmmaking is as discordant, poetic, dense and impressive as you would hope.

This is not one to be missed.
